Olympique Lyonnais superstar and Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament.
The Norwegian international announced that she suffered an ACL injury at the weekend. She posted an update on both her Twitter and Instagram account.
Hegerberg wasn’t named as part of Sunday’s match day squad. The Lyon centurion took no part in the 5-0 win over Stade de Reims.
The club confirmed the striker’s injury to her right knee, which consequently will see her sidelined for several months.
Hegerberg’s surgery date will be confirmed over the next few days.
“Her unavailability will be coherent with the regular unavailability for this kind of injury,” Lyon’s statement confirmed.
The 24-year-old will miss the remainder of what looks to be a very competitive D1 season. Lyon currently lead the way with 38 points, with Paris Saint Germain just behind on 35.

“Olympique Lyonnais will offer Ada the best medical and rehab conditions to make sure she will find her fitness back.”
Hegerberg has scored 144 league goals for Lyon in 117 appearances. Perhaps her most noteworthy achievement is her scoop of the first ever women’s Ballon d’Or award.
