Manchester City defender Aoife Mannion announced earlier today that she has suffered a ruptured ACL.

The club confirmed that Mannion suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday in their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old will undergo surgery as soon as possible. She will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines for her new club.

After signing from Birmingham City in July, Mannion has helped Man City achieve a perfect start to the 2019/20 WSL season. The Cityzens are currently top of the table on 12 points out of 12 with no goals against them.

Mannion joins the likes of Arsenal’s Danielle Carter and Brighton’s Laura Rafferty who are also sidelined through ACL injuries.

Well wishes are already flooding in to support Man City’s No.2. We join the rest of the Women’s Football community in wishing Aoife a speedy recovery.
