Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The Austrian international signed for the Gunners in 2019 from Bayern Munich and has gone on to make 31 appearances so far with the club.
During her Arsenal career, the 25-year-old has kept 12 clean-sheets and has saved three penalties in the process.
This season, she has started eight league matches for the Gunners. She kept one clean-sheet against Brighton and Hove Albion away from home as Arsenal won 5-0.
Zinsberger, who has won 66 caps so far for her country, won the Austrian player of the year for 2020. This made her the very first goalkeeper to win the award.
However Lydia Williams, who was brought in to provide competition for Zinsberger, has started three of the last four games for Joe Montemurro’s troops.
Reaction to the contract extension
On signing her new deal, Zinsberger told Arsenal.com, “It’s just unbelievable, I’m happy. We have so much quality in the team and I think also the staff around us makes it unbelievable. I’m just happy to extend my contract.”
Montemurro then went on to add, “It’s great to have Manu. We brought her in as a young goalkeeper with a lot of international experience, and obviously she’d played at the top level with Bayern.
“To be able to work with her and keep her development going, and be part of what we’re trying to build is really exciting. She’s a special girl for the group, too.
“She’s a modern goalkeeper who’s very, very good with her feet. She suits her style from a football perspective but it’s the way she is, her attitude, her behaviour and she just has a great nature.
“It’s really important to the group and we love having her around.”
Zinsberger’s last appearance for the Gunners came in the 1-1 draw away to Reading on Sunday 17 January.
