In the third of Sunday’s WSL matches, Aston Villa played host to Liverpool. The two sides last met in November, when Villa secured all three points.
With both clubs sitting comfortably in the middle of the table, would Liverpool be able to get the better of Villa for the first time this season?

How it went
Just eight minutes into the tie, the hosts were ahead. Kirsty Hanson’s eighth-minute goal gave Aston Villa a valuable lead. However, as the first half drew to a close, the visitors enjoyed a better spell of play.
Two goals in quick succession from Katie Stengel and Natasha Dowie saw Liverpool go ahead. But barely four minutes later, Liverpool’s lead vanished. Rachel Daly bagged an injury-time goal to level it up as the two teams headed into halftime.

The tie ultimately finished in a three-all draw with the points shared. Villa ended the day for points clear of Everton, while Liverpool finished the penultimate weekend seven points behind their Merseyside rivals.
