Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse to fellow Women’s Super League side Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old joined the Lilywhites in October from Santa Clara University but failed to establish herself as first choice at Spurs.
She has signed a contract until the end of the 2020/21 season. The Blues are currently eighth in the WSL table, on a comfortable ten points.
Whitehouse also played for New York’s Columbia University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association league. During her time at the University of Santa Clara, Whitehouse made 13 appearances in the NCAA competition before she came to the UK.
Whitehouse was born in Enfield but spent her childhood between Tanzania and the United States.
On signing the shot-stopper, Birmingham head coach Carla Ward said: “Sophie’s a really exciting talent and someone we’ve monitored since the summer. She will add valuable competition for Hannah Hampton and we’re delighted that she’s onboard.”
Whitehouse will wear the No.24 shirt for the Blues and serve as back-up to first choice ‘keeper Hampton. She could make her debut next weekend when they travel to Merseyside to take on Everton.
