Bristol City have announced the departure of three players following the conclusion of their contracts.
After spending one season with the club since signing from Liverpool in the summer of 2020, Jemma Purfield will depart the club upon the expiration of her contract. The full-back was an ever present fixture in the Reds’ back-line. She made 27 starts and scored twice for the Robins in a topsy turvy season. The club saw relegation from the Women’s Super League but also made a dream run to face Chelsea in the FA Cup Final.
End of an era
Another player who will be departing is Jasmine Mathews following the conclusion of her contract. The centre-back has been of long service to the club as she spent nine years with Bristol over a period of two separate spells. She progressed from the Academy to eventually captain the first team. In total, the 28 year-old has accumulated nearly 100 league appearances for the Reds.
Throughout the 20/21 Women’s Super League campaign, Mathews played 800 minutes including nine starts as well as providing one assist.
The third player who will be leaving is Belgium international Yana Daniels. Since her arrival back in 2017, the forward found the back of the net on six occasions. Like Jasmine, Yana recorded two separate spells at the club, entering the field of play 69 times. Her journey to playing for Bristol City involved overcoming six knee surgeries in five years.
Bristol City return to action in the Women’s Championship beginning on the 28th August this year.
