Serie A side AC Milan have announced the signing of Japanese international Yui Hasegawa.
On the day that she celebrates her 24th birthday, former Nippon TV Beleza midfielder Hasegawa has been officially unveiled as an AC Milan player.
Hasegawa has been with Nippon TV Beleza since her youth career. She then made the breakthrough to the senior side in 2013. With Japan’s most successful club side, she has made 114 appearances, scoring 11 goals.
The playmaker helped her club win the Japanese league title for five years in a row. They found success between the years of 2015 and 2019. Along with the Empress’ Cup and League Cup, her team also won the first ever staging of the AFC Club Championship in 2019.
In Hasegawa’s international career, she has represented Japan at both the 2012 and 2014 U17 World Cup. In the 2014 edition, Japan won the competition, with the new Milan signing contributing three goals to the tally.
Her senior international career saw the attacking midfielder as a member of the senior Japan squad for the 2019 World Cup. Here she made three appearances, scoring Japan’s only goal when they lost to the Netherlands to a last minute penalty in the Round of 16.
Hasegawa was also shortlisted for the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament for her strike against the eventual runners-up.
AC Milan will be hoping that new recruit Hasegawa can help the squad in their race for the Serie A title, where they will look to challenge Juventus right to the end.
