CD Tacon have officially rebranded as Real Madrid Women following official amalgamation.

In September 2019, Real Madrid received approval to merge with local women’s side CD Tacon. Now, the team will become the women’s arm of Los Blancos.

Following the official termination of the 2019/20 season, Madrid have confirmed the women’s rebrand.

This means CD Tacon will get their 2020/21 campaign underway under the Real Madrid name and badge. Tacon already play in their own white jerseys so it won’t be too much of a shift once they step out on the first day of the season donning the famous Real kit.

“Real Madrid is looking forward to this new challenge with the commitment of promoting the promotion of women’s football and contributing to its development and growth in our society,” the club said in its statement.

David Aznar’s side have also moved into Real’s training complex, the Ciudad Real Madrid. Once again, they will be playing their home fixtures at the complex.

Therefore, the transition will not be quite as drastic as initially anticipated. However, with many new arrivals rumoured to be on their way, a shake up in personnel could be on the cards. This includes the likes of Levante’s young starlet Eva Navarro and Mexican international Kenti Robles from city rivals Atletico Madrid.

A name of such prestige and footballing heritage moving into the women’s football sphere marks a significant step forward. It’s important to the growth and reach of the women’s game across the world.
