Continuing my series of the most impressive Women’s Super League players this year, Claudia Walker is the leading candidate for Birmingham.
Walker is a huge talent on the pitch with so much to give when she steps off it as well. She’s someone who really does put others before herself – especially the younger generation.
In June, the forward was voted the PFA’s Community Champion. She was recognised for all the community work she does, including helping local girls’ football clubs become an affiliate with WSL teams.
Walker is the perfect example of a player who I have been immensely impressed with. Five goals in eight games is a great return, especially in a side expected to struggle this season.
Like Williamson, it’s what she’s giving and willing to do off the pitch. Her work ethic puts her up there with the top role models for any aspiring players. She does well to show them there’s more to the game than just performing on the pitch.
During 2020 many people have found it tough. This includes people in the women’s game, with their seasons having been cut short earlier in the year.
For Walker to take something negative and turn it into a positive for others and offer a helping hand out wherever needed is remarkable and something which must be appreciated.
