French manager Corinne Diacre has announced her squad for the international break. The questions during her latest press conference were mainly about the situation within the team and the recent interview of Amandine Henry on Canal+

Before revealing the 23 names she said: “I want to reassure everyone, I have never been so motivated in my function and my responsibilities to seek the only objective that occupies my mind today. Namely, to qualify our national team for the next European Championship.

“During this crucial international break, we need a good attitude, serenity, ambition and to think only of our collective success,” she added. Diacre insisted on the two games that France will play against Austria and Kazakstan.

Even with these two qualifying matches, the main topic of this press conference was the situation within her team.

“Now is not the time to solve this issue as our national team play its future on the pitch. Problems will be solved face to face, but under no circumstances I will use the media as an intermediary,” Diacre said. “It is unacceptable to make a spectacle of people’s quarrels. We must show dignity.”

“I do not want to neglect our opponent”

When asked if she thought she was in danger by Amandine Henry’s interview, the manager remained calm.

“I am supported by my president and by my players. I have heard the statements, yes it is a problem. But for me, the priority is the France team.”

Diacre kept saying that there are priorities and that football should come first. She added: “I do not want to neglect our opponent, Austria. I remind you that we drew against them in the first leg.

“Out of respect for this team, a game is never won in advance. So yes, I’m focusing on that game.”

There will be a moment to have these discussions to solve the issues. The 46-year-old revealed that she will address the team about the current situation. She commented that she hopes her “words will remain within the squad”.

During this international break, Diacre confirmed that despite everything, Henry will remain the captain of the team.

“We started the qualifying with her [as the captain] and that won’t change.”

France stands first in their group, tied with Austria, with both team on 16 points. The game on November 27th in Guingamp will feel very much like a cup final.
