Manchester City are once again proving their determination to succeed this season. The Sky Blues may already have signed Jamaican forward Khadija Shaw, but today they have announced yet another show stopping signing in Barcelona captain Vicky Losada.
The Spanish midfielder has made the move to Manchester on a two year deal. The deal will see the midfielder remain at the City Football academy until 2023. City have also announced that she will wear the No.17 shirt for the upcoming campaign.
Losada comes with no shortage of accolades. Most recently, she lead Barcelona to a treble. This included the Champions League, where the Spanish giants defeated City’s title rivals Chelsea in a thrilling display. Her talents have also seen her secure 21 pieces of silverware across her career, including six league titles and seven Copa de la Reina trophies.
The move to City is not the 30-year-old’s first stint in the WSL. Losada previously played for Arsenal in 2015 where she was included in the PFA Team of the Season.
During her time with the Gunners, Losada collected both FA Cup and League Cup titles. She made 25 league appearances for the club, while scoring three goals in the process.
With Manchester City clearly strengthening their squad in all areas of the pitch, the fight for the WSL title could become much closer. Losada’s signing will undoubtedly provide more options for Gareth Taylor with an already strong attacking force.
