Izzy Christiansen signs for Everton from Lyon

England midfielder Izzy Christiansen has joined former club Everton on an 18-month deal from Lyon.

The 28-year-old will return to the Women’s Super League in 2020 and could play her first match on January 5.

Christiansen started her professional career with Everton in 2008, moving to Birmingham a year later. She spent five years with the Midlands side before moving back to the north to join Man City.

She quickly became an integral part of their system and committed four years to the Cityzens. The midfielder made 61 appearances in sky blue and scored 18 goals.

An impressive tenure with City saw Christiansen win the Women’s Super League, the FA Cup and the Continental Cup.

Earlier this year, Christiansen spoke out about the “struggling” six months she had had. Including lack of the game-time she was receiving with the French giants.

She joined Lyon from Man City back in 2018 and enjoyed plenty of silverware during her time in France.

“I’m very confident that this is the right club.”

She won the Division 1 Féminine title, the Coupe de France and the Champions League along with the Trophée des Championnes with Lyon.

Christiansen was also part of the England side that lifted the She Believes Cup in March.

“I’m here to develop, I’m here to try and win, ” Christiansen said in her first interview with the club.

“I’m excited to be able to try and bring the winning mentality to this club and to continue on the great work that’s been going on for the first part of the season.”
