Today it has been confirmed that Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso will miss this summer’s Euros through injury. A ligament issue in the 32 year olds knee will see Spain forced to call up a replacement later this week.

So just how important is Hermoso for Spain? The loss of the striker will leave Spain without their proven goal-scoring threat. She bagged 24 goals in 36 appearances for Barcelona. Hermoso was widely touted as a player to watch in this summer’s tournament. Although she might not fit the typical Barcelona profile, the striker does wonderful things with the ball and is regarded as one of the best attacking players in the game.

The 32-year-old has proven herself to be a threat for her country as well. Hermoso has bagged 45 goals in 91 appearances since making her senior debut 11 years ago. Spain expected that she would lead the attacking lines as an experienced player, but also as an example for any upcoming talent in the squad.

Spain will announce a replacement this Thursday for Euro 2022. The country is one of the outsiders for the title and we will give more attention to the country’s chances of winning, in the weeks to come.
