Keira Skelton pleased with Newcastle United win heading into 2023

Keira Skelton spoke of her pride as Newcastle United ended 2022 with a dominant 9-0 win against Merseyrail.

It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for Newcastle who’ve become part of the NUFC family following PIF’s takeover of the club and played twice at St James’ Park.

Despite that though it hasn’t been straightforward at all with the Lasses missing out on promotion narrowly last season and have had to deal with numerous injuries this term.

Things look to be on the up, however, as players such as Ellen Packham and Anna Soulsby near a return and the Lady Magpies sit one point off top of the table heading into 2023.

Kiera Skelton pleased with Newcastle’s 2022

Skelton was not only delighted with Sunday’s performance but also the year as a whole with everyone stepping up when required.

‘Great way to end the year, just the way we want to be going into the new year, goal difference is massive in this league as we saw last year’ Skelton said.

Skelton has featured regularly under Becky Langley this season having formed a great partnership with Kacie Elson which has caused numerous amounts of problems.

Excitement building for the new year

The full-back is now only looking forward though and thinking about what 2023 will hold for the team as she added:

‘I think we’ve done well considering all the injuries we’ve had, I feel like everyone’s stepped up and done their job and when we do get those injured players back we just want to kick on next year.’

Given the youthfulness of Langley’s side, for them to be one point off top spot heading into the new year and players returning from injury, it’s an exciting time.

It’s a tough start to 2023 though with a triple header of away trips that will test the resolve of Langley’s side.
