Championship side Liverpool have announced five senior players will be departing the club in June, following the expiration of their contracts.
One of the players who will be moving on is striker Jess Clarke. She joined the Reds from Notts County back in 2017, since then she has made a total of 68 appearances across both top flight divisions in women’s football. The No.7 also managed to find the back of the net on ten occasions during her time in Merseyside.
Fellow attacker Kirsty Linnett will also be departing the club this summer. During her last three years with Liverpool, after joining from Reading, she managed to score a total of seven goals in 52 appearances.
Danish international Amalie Thestrup is also amongst the players set to leave. The centre-forward who arrived from Roma last summer clocked 21 appearances and four goals during the 2020/21 campaign.
Amy Rodgers, who has progressed through the ranks of the Liverpool Women’s Academy, will also be parting ways with the club after five years in red. The experienced midfielder accumulated a landmark 50 appearances alongside four goals throughout her time in the North West.
Finally, Becky Jane will also be leaving at the end of her current deal with Liverpool. Over the two years she spent on Merseyside, she managed to notch 36 appearances as well as three goals. This comes after a positional change on the field. The 29-year-old was originally a full-back but moved further up into attacking areas last season.
A captain’s farewell
Another player who is leaving the club is fan favourite captain Sophie Bradley-Auckland.
The centre-back played two seasons in red. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was unable to play or train after sacrificing the sport to work on the frontline and care for her local residents.
After speaking to Liverpool FC, she expressed her gratefulness to the fans. “I just wanted to thank them for all the support during my time at the club.”
On May 26, it was announced that the 31-year-old will join fellow championship club Sheffield United.
