As Manchester City prepare to welcome Liverpool on Sunday, Gareth Taylor discussed the upcoming clash and the impact Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has had already this season.

The Sky Blues are currently unbeaten in their past three games and have not conceded since suffering a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last month.

The opposition

Taylor was keenly aware of the challenge that Sunday’s opposition could pose. Since returning to the top flight, Liverpool have already made their mark with a shock victory over champions Chelsea in their first match of the season.

Man City have previously faced Liverpool in a pre-season friendly, which ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Reds have failed to pick up another point in the league since the opening day victory at Prenton park. Although, Matt Beard’s side did collect three points during Wednesday’s away win over Leicester in the Continental Cup.

The Manchester City boss was quick to emphasise the impact that fans have had on the team’s fortunes. The Sky Blues have so far enjoyed higher attendances than in previous seasons, with Wednesday’s first round Conti Cup tie garnering a similar crowd to many of last season’s league matches.

Immediate Bunny Shaw impact

Taylor described Shaw as a “top talent.” The Jamaican international has scored seven goals in her previous six matches and is currently the highest goalscorer in the WSL this season.

The manager also discussed how Shaw has proven herself in France and also on the wider international stage.

Following the retirement of England superstar Ellen White, the 25-year-old is now Man City’s primary striker, a responsibility that Taylor says she is relishing.

Shaw bagged herself back-to-back braces during City’s last two WSL wins over Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

The match against Liverpool will be shown on the FA Player and City+ with kick off at 2:30pm.
