
Newcastle United finished the season in style as they put eight past Barnsley at home with Lauren Robson netting a hat-trick.
The Magpies finished the season off in style which sums up their very impressive season and goes to show there are some solid foundations to build upon next campaign.
Lauren Robson put the Magpies ahead after just nine minutes thanks to a long-range effort.
Robson was back at it moments later as she volleyed her side into a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.
Brooke Cochrane got in on the act as she headed from Robson’s corner on the half-hour mark.
It was 4-0 just before half-time as Beth Guy headed home a perfect header into the far corner.
Cochrane stepped up to the penalty spot to net her second of the afternoon.
Becky Ferguson made it 6-0 just after the hour mark with a neat finish through the keepers’ legs.
Katie Barker finally and inevitably got on the scoresheet tapping home for 7-0.
Robson helps Newcastle seal comfortable victory
Robson sealed her hat-trick with a beautifully placed lob over the Barnsley keeper.
Barnsley managed to regain some pride by getting themselves on the scoresheet following a goalmouth scramble which saw Newcastle United lose out on a final clean sheet.
After a fair low key start to the game, Lauren Robson treated the hundreds of Newcastle fans that were in attendance with a stunning long-range strike.
A stunning cross from Beth Guy just evaded the head of Katie Barker but fell perfect for Robson who took a touch down with her chest before smashing on the half volley past the keeper.
Robson turned provided this time as she floated a cross in right on the head of Cochrane who netted on her final appearance for the club.
It was quite a moving moment as the whole team huddled around Cochrane as the ball hit the back of the net, after also getting on the scoresheet last week at St James’ Park.
Cochrane goes out in style with a brace
Guy, probably one of the smallest players on the pitch leapt like a Salmon as her header glanced right into the far corner from Wilkinson’s corner, the pick of the bunch from Newcastle’s first-half strikes.
Katie Barker broke into the penalty area before being tripped up by two Barnsley defenders and she duly handed the ball to now apparent penalty expert Cochrane who scored from the spot last weekend.
The captain went low and saw Barnsley’s keeper get a strong hand on the ball, but could only push it into the side netting making three in two games.
A low cross was blocked on the line after Barker slid in, but just a few seconds later Ferguson was played through one-on-one and calmly slotted underneath the on-rushing keeper to make it a resounding 6-0.
After a string of good saves Olivia Watt thought she had tapped home at the back post only to see her celebrations cut short as the linesman raised his flag for an earlier offside in the build-up.
Langley’s side finish the season in style
Katie Barker was quickest to pounce on the ball after Barnsley’s Clarke saved well low well down low and could do nothing about the follow-up effort.
Lauren Robson, after netting twice in the first half, sealed a memorable hat-trick as she took one touch before lobbing Clarke who had come sprinting out to close the angle down.
Barnsley managed to get one back for their efforts after a goalmouth scramble which wiped out Langley’s sides’ clean sheet.

The energetic winger set the tone for this match causing Barnsley all sorts of problems before she even got on the scoresheet iht constant runs in behind and popped up both centrally and out wide.
Robson took all three of her goals well but the final one summed up her game and Newcastle’s season as he delicately lobbed the Barnsley keeper on the penalty spot.
She was a constant threat all game and duly deserved her appreciation from the fans as she made her way around the pitch following her substitution.
