Nadia Nadim was at hand to help Racing Louisville earn a point against Washington Spirit in a 2-2 draw at Segra Field. The Spirit now find themselves winless in eight games.

First Half

Washington started the game on the front foot and pinned back Louisville but could not find the back of the net. In the 20th minute, Emily Sonnett did make the net bulge but found herself offside.

However, the breakthrough came 13 minutes later through Trinity Rodman. She managed to latch onto Ashley Sanchez’s pass before slotting the ball past the keeper at the far post.

The Spirit then doubled the lead three minutes from the break when Maddie Elwell tapped in from close range. This was after Katie Lund had denied Ashley Hatch’s header before the ball dropped onto a free running Elwell.

The defending champions had another chance right at the end of the half to make it three but the shot hit the crossbar.

Second Half

Racing Louisville came out a much improved team in the second half but Washington still dominated proceedings. That was until substitute Nadim came on for the Kentucky outfit.

The Danish forward pulled one back for Louisville following a neat give-and-go between her and Jessica McDonald.

The momentum shifted and Louisville suddenly found themselves with the chances to tie the game. With two minutes remaining, McDonald and Nadim linked up yet again. This time, McDonald was able to grab a loose ball before delivering a cross and Nadim beat her marker to head in the equaliser.

This result made no real difference for either side on the table but the defending champions will feel hard done by. Last week, they battled hard to tie the game against North Carolina Courage but conceded in the last minute.

It was yet another fame of dropped points but this time from a comfortable winning position. The feeling is that fatigue is taking a toll on the team due to fixture congestion.

Washington Spirit’s next match will be against San Diego Wave while Racing Louisville are set to take on Orlando Pride.
