Rangers show intent with Jamaica star

Rangers have beaten numerous clubs to secure the signing of 22-year-old Jamaica international Chantelle Swaby from Sky Blue in the NWSL.

The skillfull centre-half will join the Ranger’s squad for the rest of the 2020-21 season as they battle it out with Glasgow Rangers and Celtic for the Scottish title.

Rivals Glasgow City have won the last 13-consecutive Scottish League titles but this season it’s looking entirely possible that this may no longer be the case as investment and interest in the sport grows.

Experienced around the globe

Manager Malky Thompson seemed pleased with the addition “We are really pleased to have Chantelle join up with the squad”. Malky went on to add: “She is an enthusiastic and hard-working young player who brings fantastic experience”.

The experience Malky refers to is the 2019 World Cup. Chantelle represented Jamaica in all three of their group stage games against the likes of international giants, Brazil and Australia.

A family affair

Chantelle will be following in her sisters footsteps by taking steps into the European leagues. Allyson Swaby turns out for AS Roma in the Italian Serie A.

Allyson has often been a pioneer not only in her own family. She was the first Jamaican to join the football based charity Common Goal and donate 1 per cent of her wages to good causes.
