Rangers Women sent a warning to the SPFL1 as they smashed reigning champions Glasgow City 5-0 at Broadwood.

Goals from Megan Bell, Kirsty Howat and Zoe Ness blew City away in the first 45, with Lizzie Arnot and Carly Girasoli completing the scoring.

Gers boss Malky Thomson named an unchanged starting 11, while Claire Shine and Tyler Toland came into the side for Glasgow City.

It was the holding champs who would come closest, when Shine’s shot was well blocked by Jenna Fife in the Rangers goal. But within minutes, Northern Ireland international Megan Bell would curl Rangers into the lead with a superb strike.

The floodgates opened shortly afterwards for a dominant Rangers and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Howat who would double the lead against her former club, as she connected superbly to a Nicola Docherty cross.

Glasgow City’s Nicola Robertson’s saw her effort cannon off the woodwork as the half drew to a close. However, it was the Gers who would put the game beyond doubt seconds later as Scottish international Ness lobbed home.

Thomson’s side continued the onslaught into the second period and went further ahead only five minutes after the restart. Brogan Hay put it on a plate for Arnot to tap home beyond Lee Alexander.

Arnot would turn provider for the fifth, as her corner caused all sorts of issues for Alexander before Girasoli made sure from close range.

Elsewhere in the SPFL1, Hibernian got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Forfar, while Celtic continued their impressive form with a 5-0 victory against Motherwell.

The weekend results mean Rangers top the SPFL1 on goal difference as the Scottish league takes it annual winter break.
