Rangers showcased their title credentials on Sunday with a dominant 9-0 victory over Motherwell.
A hat-trick each from Kirsty Howat and Lizzie Arnot plus goals from Megan Bell, Daina Bourma and Bala Devi gave the Blue Belles a resounding victory to move within two points of league leaders Glasgow City.
Rangers made five changes from their 3-1 win over Forfar last week. Howat, Bell, Rachel McLaughlin, Sam Kerr and Carly Girasoli all came into the starting 11.
Indeed, it was the Gers who were dominant from the first minute. A lively Bell caused all kinds of issues, so it was no surprise when Howat finished superbly from a flowing move started by the outstanding Kirsten Reilly.
Arnott doubled her side’s advantage when she finished well from Bell’s pass. The latter then got in on the act herself when she tapped home from close range.
Arnot then sealed her hat-trick within a minute. Her first was a beautiful 25-yard free-kick that flew into the bottom corner, before she tucked away an expert penalty to give Gers a 5-0 half-time lead.
Relentless Rangers added a sixth just after the break when Arnot turned provider for Howat. She completed a hat-trick of her own when she finished McLaughlin’s cross at the near post.
Driven by Reilly in the middle, the Blue Belles showed no sympathy to Motherwell. Camping inside their box, they bagged their eighth goal when substitute Bourma tucked away a 69th minute penalty.
Indian international Devi completed the scoring five minutes from time, tapping home her first goal in Scottish football.
Elsewhere in the SPFL1, two last minute goals rescued a point for Celtic who drew 2-2 at Forfar. Meanwhile, Glasgow City continued their 100% record with a 3-1 win at Spartans, whilst Hearts shocked Hibernian, winning the Edinburgh derby 1-0.
