Matchday 13 of the Serie A season produced plenty of drama as Juventus scored a late winner against Sassuolo to capitalise on Roma’s first defeat of the season.

Here, we will round up all the action from the latest round of fixtures in the Italian top flight.

Napoli 0-0 Pomigliano

Napoli are still waiting for their first win of the Serie A season after they shared the spoils in Saturday’s clash with Sampdoria. The visitors went into the contest in a positive mood after claiming a surprise victory over Roma in the first leg of their Coppa Italia quarter-final tie. They went agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the first half when Eli del Estal saw her header kept out by a combination of goalkeeper and post. Napoli experienced more frustration in the second period as Gina Chmielinski curled her effort against the upright. It was then Sampdoria’s turn to rattle the woodwork, ensuring the contest ended in a goalless draw.

Inter 2-0 Roma

After losing to Napoli in their midweek cup fixture, Roma experienced more disappointment at the weekend. The league leaders slumped to their first defeat of the Serie A season in their away meeting with Inter. As the contest moved past the half-hour mark, Agnese Bonfantini neatly controlled Frederikke Thøgersen’s long pass, before prodding the ball past Camelia Ceasar. Elisa Poli made sure of the three points with a superb individual effort in the closing stages. The substitute picked up the ball just inside the Roma half, before evading multiple challenges to drive into the box and fire home her first Serie A goal of the season.

Sassuolo 0-1 Juventus

Roma’s defeat allowed second-placed Juventus to close the gap at the top of the table to just three points. The visitors looked set to experience a frustrating outing against Sassuolo until January addition Onyi Echegini netted an 89th-minute winner. The Nigeria international slotted past Solene Durand at the near post to secure all three points with her first goal for the club. Juventus will now turn their attention to two crucial games against Fiorentina and Roma.

Fiorentina 3-1 Pomigliano

Fiorentina will head into Monday’s clash with Juventus off the back of four consecutive league wins. Their latest victory took place in Sunday’s home clash with relegation-threatened Pomigliano. Alexandra Johannsdottir gave Fiorentina the lead in the 23rd minute, drilling the ball into the roof of the net to score her second league goal of the campaign. Zhanna Ferrario then headed home from Martina Fusini’s cross to restore parity before the half-time break. Pomigliano had the opportunity to complete the turnaround when the referee awarded a penalty just past the hour mark. However, Dalila Ippólito saw her tame spot-kick saved by Italy international Katja Schroffenegger. The visitors were made to rue that miss as Madelen Janogy netted a five-minute brace to move Fiorentina within five points of leaders, Roma.

AC Milan 3-2 Como

AC Milan survived a late Como fightback to end their long wait for a Serie A win in Monday’s home fixture against Como. Andrea Stašková headed the home side in front from Marta Mascarello’s corner. After setting up the opener, Mascarello had a goal of her own to celebrate in the 43rd minute. The 25-year-old drilled the ball into the roof of the net to give Milan a two-goal lead at the break. The hosts appeared to be on course to claim a comfortable win when Stašková netted her second goal of the game just after the hour mark. However, Como were able to pull a goal back through Dominika Škorvánková, before Melania Martinovic found the net in stoppage time. It was ultimately too little too late for Como as Milan celebrated their first Serie A victory since October.
