Tottenham Hotspur sign former Everton duo

Tottenham Hotspur have announced a double signing ahead of the Women’s Super League return.

Experienced internationals Maeva Clemaron and Tinja-Riikka Korpela both join the team after playing together at fellow WSL side Everton. 

Maeva Clemaron

Clemaron has signed a contract with the club until the end of 2022, with the option to extend a further year. She will wear the No.21 shirt next season. 

During the last two seasons with Everton, the midfielder made 22 WSL appearances. She also helped her side reach Wembley in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final.

Speaking after signing her contract, the 28-year-old expressed her eagerness to join Tottenham.

“The opportunity to play for Spurs is a really good one and a great challenge for me. Spurs are progressing well and will only get better and better on the pitch, so I’m very excited to join and work with everyone.”

Tottenham head coach Rehanne Skinner agreed: “I feel she will bring consistency and additional quality to complement our midfield. Her tactical understanding of how she can link our back four into our midfield will give us some real balance – she’s going to help us shore up that area even more and I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Tinja-Riikka Korpela

Tottenham’s second signing of the transfer window adds to the goalkeeping department. The shot-stopper has also spent the last two seasons with the blue side of Merseyside with Everton. She played a part in helping the club reach the 2020 Women’s FA Cup Final. 

Finland international Korpela joins Spurs on a contract that will last until the summer of 2022. There is the option of an extension provided. 

Korpela represented Finland in the European Championships of 2009 and 2013. She also helped them reach the tournament due to played next year. Whilst at Spurs, she has the No.1 shirt to wear throughout the season.

Korpela said: “I’m very excited to join Spurs, such a big and famous club. I hope to use my experience from different clubs around Europe and the Finnish national team to help the squad achieve our targets.”

Skinner expressed nothing but praise for her latest signing: “We’re really pleased to have [Korpela] with us. She is a hard-working, diligent professional who has played in different countries, enabling her to bring a breadth of experience and knowledge to her game.”
