For the ninth matchup overall against Colombia, the USA took the win once again with a brace from young forward Sophia Smith. The overall record between the two teams is now 8-0-1 to the US.

The last time these two teams played each other featured the first cap for Catarina Macario, who is currently out with an ACL tear. The team won 6-0, which was a promising win compared to the slow and disconnected start the team had in this game.

The USWNT started the game slow and disconnected. With a missed penalty in the first half, the team did not start scoring until the second period.

At half-time, Ashley Sanchez and Alex Morgan were brought on for in place of Lindsey Horan and Ashley Hatch. Both players proved to make a difference with numerous plays throughout the half.

The first goal came in the 54th minute. Rose Lavelle played a perfect ball through the defenders to Smith’s feet, where she took a touch and slotted it past goalkeeper Catalina Perez.

Six minutes later, a similar sight for the US gave them another goal. Lavelle once again played a high ball over the defenders to Smith, who took a touch around the diving goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
