
For the ninth matchup overall against Colombia, the USA took the win once again with a brace from young forward Sophia Smith. The overall record between the two teams is now 8-0-1 to the US.
The last time these two teams played each other featured the first cap for Catarina Macario, who is currently out with an ACL tear. The team won 6-0, which was a promising win compared to the slow and disconnected start the team had in this game.
Highlights
The USWNT started the game slow and disconnected. With a missed penalty in the first half, the team did not start scoring until the second period.
At half-time, Ashley Sanchez and Alex Morgan were brought on for in place of Lindsey Horan and Ashley Hatch. Both players proved to make a difference with numerous plays throughout the half.
The first goal came in the 54th minute. Rose Lavelle played a perfect ball through the defenders to Smith’s feet, where she took a touch and slotted it past goalkeeper Catalina Perez.
Six minutes later, a similar sight for the US gave them another goal. Lavelle once again played a high ball over the defenders to Smith, who took a touch around the diving goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Scored in the 90th minute, the final goal of the game featured a first cap goal. Sanchez drew a foul in a great position close to the top of the box. Megan Rapinoe served a perfect ball in to Kornieck, who flicked it into the bottom corner, out of the reach of Perez.
The game ended 3-0 with a USA win, adding to their record over Colombia.
