When you look at the US Women’s National team, we see 20-28 women giving everything that they have in order to bring home the win in every game. This mindset did not change coming into the SheBelieves Cup.
With England back in the line-up, would they keep hold of the trophy or would the USA bring it back to the States? It seemed possible for the new and upcoming Spanish team to take it home. However, long standing rivals Japan looked like they were going to give the United States another run for their money.Embed from Getty Images
With the table stacking up, the USA were going into game three with the aim of securing the SBC trophy with either a win or a tie over Japan. Of course, the two time back-to-back Women’s World Cup champs would not settle for a tie.
The last game in the SBC series would be in Frisco, Texas. As the match started, it did not take long for the Americans to take control of the game. Megan Rapinoe scored a beautiful top left corner shot from a free-kick just outside the box.
20 minutes later, another familiar name would make the scoresheet. Christen Press, making the chip shot over the Japanese goalie.
The aggression and fight that the USWNT showed in this match could be picked out easily.
The final score line read 3-1 with Lindsey Horan scoring in the second half of the match. And again, the United States have reclaimed the trophy for the third time since the SBC was introduced five years ago.Embed from Getty Images
Now, to name some this cup’s star players from the USWNT. Without a shadow of a doubt we can say a standout player was Press.
In every game she has created something phenomenal that left our mouths agape. When she isn’t making an amazing run on the outside or drawing off the defenders, she’s launching soccer balls into the back of the net.
Another mention would be Julie Ertz. She has been another key player to watch in this cup. Ertz has been a juggernaut in the midfield, winning balls in the air or breaking up the oppositions attack on the ground.Embed from Getty Images
Every player on this national team is explosive.
Something to note about this competition was what the SheBelieves really means. This cup is to symbolize that if She Believes in it, then she can achieve anything.
We are all called to pursue our passions, to aspire to greatness, and inspire others to do the same. With confidence, we can attain anything we set our minds too.
SheBelieves in unity and this final match showed that the USWNT are the best because of that unity. This cup is for the USWNT, and also for every woman out there attempting to make her dreams a reality.
