A resounding four-goal win over Brighton gave Liverpool their fourth win this Women’s Super League season. The victory sees the Reds sit fifth in the table while the Seagulls occupy ninth position.

Liverpool had suffered just a single defeat in their last five league games, having suffered a 1-0l loss to Everton. Brighton had endured a more mixed run of form, with just one win and one draw in their previous five league fixtures.

How it went

After a close opening spell, Gemma Bonner opened the scoring for the afternoon in the 27th minute. The defender headed the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box following a well-worked corner routine.

Just before half-time, Shanice Van De Sanden doubled the hosts’ lead. A fantastic run saw the Dutch international through on Sophie Baggaley’s goal in acres of space. Slotting the ball home from a tight angle, the No.19’s effort sent the Reds in two goals ahead at the break.

Ceri Holland got her name on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute to bag the Reds their third of the afternoon. The No.18 headed the ball beyond Baggaley following a fantastic effort from Sophie Roman-Haug. The No.10 would round out the action for Liverpool in added time to deal Brighton one final blow. The Danish international drilled home Leanne Kiernan’s cross to wrap up a perfect afternoon for Matt Beard’s side.
