Bayern Munich are showing that they mean business this transfer window. After the highly promising signings of Georgia Stanway and Emelyne Laurent, the club have also announced the arrival of Tainara de Souza da Silva.

The talented Brazilian will be a huge boost for the backline of last season’s Frauen-Bundesliga league runners-up. Tainara has signed a three-year deal that will run until 2025.

Upcoming talent Tainara

Tainara will become the first ever Brazilian player to represent Bayern Munich, something that club sporting director Bianca Rech is proud to announce.

“She is an athletic defender and will help us to develop in the defensive area with her qualities,” she said.

Before coming to Europe, Tainara’s career picked up speed in the Brazilian women’s top flight, Série A1. Then, she made the move to Bordeaux in 2021. The defender played a total of ten matches for the French outfit, starting in all of them.

Tainara also has ten appearances for the Brazilian National team to her name. In 2021, she earned her first call-up. The defender featured in the squad’s friendly games, as well as during the Tournoi de France this year.

Upon her arrival in Munich, Tainara has high expectations.

“In Germany, football is technically and tactically on a very high level — better than in Brazil and France”, she said.

Tainara’s style of play

With the Brazilian, Bayern have signed a modern defender who mostly plays as right centre-back. Generally, Tainara’s strengths lie in key defending, meaning she does a lot of tackles and interceptions. In addition, she is good in the air, as well as defending and attacking set pieces.

Furthermore, the defender is dominant in duels and has a great awarness for her own and her teammate’s positioning, especially her partners at the backline. Tainara has an eye for good passes, which can reach both the midfield and the attacking players. She is confident on the ball and progresses a lot with it.

With these aspects in mind, her style of play seems to suit the Frauen-Bundesliga, which is a very physical and tactical top flight. Tainara is tactically smart and brings a lot of defensive awarness.

As Bayern is an attacking team, the players need to be good in transitioning, which does apply to the new signing.

However, the defender made some key errors in previous games that resulted in dangerous shots on goal. The Brazilian went on to recover most of her mistakes and with regular playing time at Bayern, these errors are likely to outgrow her game.

Tainara’s ambitions

Tainara is excited to get started and doesn’t lack ambition.

“[It is] a very big club and a lot of great players are playing here”, the Brazilian highlighted. “This is why I am happy to be playing here and I will do my best to be successful. I want to win every title there is with FC Bayern.”

In addition, the defender praised the structures and the winning mentality at her new club. Apart from leaving her marks at FC Bayern, Tainara will want to gain vital experience in the games against other top teams. She expects a lot of intensity and structures in the matches.

However, when competing for a place in Bayern’s starting lineup, the Brazilian will face tough concurrence. Having football legends Marta and Formiga as idols will only fuel Tainara’s ambition ahead of her first season in Germany.
