The big North East weekend preview

Newcastle

If you’re struggling for something to do today, then it seems like the perfect time to visit one of the amazon North East football teams that are playing.

With no Male top league teams playing today, it offers an amazing opportunity for all of the Women’s North East clubs to attract blockbuster crowds as they all have crucial fixtures.

There are four teams that would absolutely love any extra support they can get in the form of Durham, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Depending on where you are based in the North East, you will have a different choice of which team you could go down and watch.

Below, Her Football Hub take a look at each team, a brief preview of their match and how much it will cost to attend each fixture.

Durham

While promotion out of the FA Women’s Championship looks to have escaped Durham this season it has still been a superb campaign for the Wildcats.

Durham have only lost three games at Maiden Castle this season and they’ll look to continue that great run when they welcome Coventry United.

The visitors were docked points for entering administration earlier in the season so they sit on zero points, so Durham will be confident of picking up all three points.

Visiting Durham will allow fans to witness some of the best players the Championship have to offer in Beth Hepple, Lauren Briggs and Dee Bradley.

If you’re looking to take in a Durham game today, it will only cost adults £7, students £5 and under 16s £3.

There’s no reason to take in a game of the best calibre of football on show in the North East today.

Newcastle United

The Magpies are going to be involved in one of the most crucial matches this weekend when they welcome Norton & Stockton Ancients, which sees 2nd face 5th.

Newcastle find themselves just two points off Liverpool Feds and thus are so close to earning promotion into the Northern Promotion Division.

It will be a tight and likely tense affair, however, Newcatsle are the form team in the league and are buoyed by the fact they are set to go professional in the near future.

If you are a Newcastle fan and would like to support the Women, they are playing at Druid Park and it will only set adults back £3 and concessions just £1, which is certainly value for money.

Middlesbrough

Boro are experiencing a tough time of things this season and currently find themselves in the bottom three facing relegation.

However, the landscape of things at the bottom of the league could this weekend when they face Sheffield FC, who are just one place below them.

Middlesbrough have played two extra games than their opponents so nothing less than a win will do in their bid to avoid the drop, which is likely to make it one of the best matchups of the weekend.

If an old school clash is what you’re after this weekend, then Bedford Terrace is the place to be on Sunday.

It will cost adults just £3 to enter the match and it will be 1P for children (yes, that’s right).

Sunderland

The fourth and final North East team is unfortunately away and that is an FA Women’s Championship clash that sees the Black Cats take on Blackburn Rovers.

It has been an exciting and massive learning curve this season for Sunderland having won four games, drawn four and lost the other eight of their games.

While it’s a big ask for fans to travel down to see the lasses play against Rovers, people can follow the side via the club’s official Twitter account @SAFCLadies.
